چکیده

CONTEXT Pelvic stress fractures, osteitis pubis, and snapping hip syndrome account for a portion of the overuse injuries that can occur in the running athlete. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION PUBMED SEARCHES WERE PERFORMED FOR EACH ENTITY USING THE FOLLOWING KEYWORDS: snapping hip syndrome, coxa sultans, pelvic stress fracture, and osteitis pubis from 2008 to 2013. Topic reviews, case reports, case series, and randomized trials were included for review. STUDY DESIGN Clinical review. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 4. RESULTS Collectively, 188 articles were identified. Of these, 58 were included in this review. CONCLUSION Based on the available evidence, the majority of these overuse injuries can be managed non-operatively. Primary treatment should include removal from offending activity, normalizing regional muscle strength/length imbalances and nutritional deficiencies, and mitigating training errors through proper education of the athlete and training staff. STRENGTH OF RECOMMENDATION TAXONOMY C.

Correlation between lower body stiffness and agility in racket-sports athlete

Stiffness is an index for determination of elastic properties of body and its optimum range is different in various motion patterns. The Spring-mass model is used for calculating stiffness. In this method, the whole leg is modeled with a linear simple spring. The aim of this study is determination of lower body stiffness and evaluation of its correlation with agility, as dominant motion patt...

33 Ironman triathlons in 33 days–a case study

This case report presents the performance of an athlete who completed for the first time in history the total distance of 33 Ironman triathlons within 33 consecutive days. The athlete finished the total distance of 7,458 km (i.e. 125 km swimming, 5,940 km cycling and 1,393 km running) within a total time of 410 h and a mean time of 12 h 27 min per Ironman distance. During the 33 days, the athle...

Biomechanical Approach to Open-Loop Bipedal Running with a Musculoskeletal Athlete Robot

In this study, a musculoskeletal robot is used as a tool to investigate how animals control their complex body. Sprinting is a challenging task that requires maximizing the potential resources of a musculoskeletal structure. Our approach to robotic sprinting is the Athlete Robot — a musculoskeletal robot with elastic blade feet controlled by feedforward motor command. We use a catapult launcher...

Recovery levels after eccentric and concentric loading in maximal force

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to compare the differences in recovery periods after maximal concentric and eccentric exercises. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-two participants voluntarily participated and were divided into two groups: the athlete and sedentary groups. An incremental treadmill running test was performed until exhaustion. During the subsequent passive recovery session, heart ...

A metabolic limit on the ability to make up for lost time in endurance events.

It has been repeatedly demonstrated that the tolerable duration (t) of high-intensity cycling is well characterized as a hyperbolic function of power (P) with an asymptote that has been termed the "fatigue threshold" and with a curvature constant. This hyperbolic P-t relationship has also been confirmed in running and swimming, when speed (V) is used instead of P; that is, (V - V(F)). t = D', w...
